Part-Time Patient Service Representative - General Surgery - Southlake Clinic - Renton, WA






Southlake Clinic currently has exciting career opportunities for a Patient Services Representative in our Renton and Covington locations. We are a physician-owned, multispecialty organization with 50+ providers serving South King County. The Patient Services Representative is responsible for performing all Receptionist duties to include but not limited to, greeting patients at the front desk or on the phone, patient registration, promoting and providing excellent customer service, scheduling patient appointments and transferring calls as appropriate. Contributes to the success of the clinic by providing prompt, efficient, and friendly service via in person or over the phone.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Greets all patients in a manner which is respectful and courteous, making them feel comfortable and welcome.

  • Obtains pertinent information to register patients including all appropriate patient signatures (e.g. assignment of benefits, payment responsibility).

  • Schedules appointments which correctly and accurately correspond to each physician’s template.

  • Checks-in patients, verify all demographic and insurance information; collects all required co-pays; updates account information as necessary; verifies that all required authorizations and/or referrals have been obtained.

  • Updates established accounts and information on the computer and processes charge tickets. Reconciles charge tickets with the number of patients seen daily per established policy.

  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with physicians, patients, patient families, visitors, co-workers, executive staff and other employees in a professional and confidential manner.

  • Accepts and relays messages accurately and efficiently. Maintains and protects each patient’s right to confidentiality. Identifies emergencies and initiates appropriate response.

  • Discusses deposit requirements with patients for scheduled procedures; collects as necessary; works with Business Office Collectors for payment arrangements, if necessary.

  • Assists medical records and front office with filing as necessary.

  • Responsible for daily balancing of cash box.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


Knowledge


  • Knowledge of medical insurance plan descriptions.

  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology.

  • Knowledge of computer systems, word processing programs and applications.

Skills


  • Proficient 10 key and keyboarding skills.

  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Skills in effectively presenting information and responding to questions from patients, co-workers, managers, insurance carriers, and the general public in a clear speaking voice.

  • Strong organization skills and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities.

  • Requires the ability to read, write, communicate, and interpret information accurately in English.

Abilities


  • Ability to write notes and memos accurately and clearly.

  • Ability to communication clearly over the phone, in person and in writing.

  • Ability to multi-task, subject to interruptions and work under time pressure.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED. Prefer two years of work related experience in a medical office with computer scheduling experience.


Physical/Mental Demands


To perform the essential functions of the job the employee is required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, handle objects or controls, reach, bend down, and lift up to 10 pounds, have close vision and ability to adjust focus. Ability to sit for extended periods of time.


  • Requires the ability to operate, repetitively, a personal computer and calculator. Also requires ability to operate multi-line telephone, facsimile and photocopier.

  • Requires the ability to concentrate and consistently produce accurate work.

  • The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 lbs.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Duties are performed in an office environment but may also require traveling to other facilities using employee’s personal transportation.

  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours.

  • Involves sitting for approximately 90 of work day.

  • The physical exertion is moderate.
