THE FORELAND SCHOOL: Teaching Assistant Teaching/Child Support - Term Time

Start Date: Sep 2016

Pay: KR3

Full time/term time (temporary contract in the first instance)Teaching Assistants are required for September 2016. The full time post is for 30.50 hours per week (including 2hour meeting on alternate Thursdays 3:15pm – 5:15pm) 39 weeks per year (Term time plus 5 days INSET).

As our school changes, flexibility in the school’s organisation will need to be maintained. Candidates should therefore be aware that this post is an appointment to the school as a whole, maybe based at one of our off site inclusion classes and not necessarily fixed to a specific department.

Whilst previous experience of working in a special school is not essential, knowledge and experience of the issues faced by children with special educational needs or disabilities will be a distinct advantage. Due to the high level of need of some pupils, responsibilities will include intimate personal care, feeding pupils where necessary (including by gastric tube with relevant training) and administration of medication (subject to training).

Ideally candidates will already hold or be studying towards a relevant qualification such as Supporting Teaching and Learning or Support Work in Schools (eg; CACHE; NVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning; Support Work in Schools (SWiS) etc). Candidates must be able to demonstrate competency linked to National Occupational Standards, and must be qualified to at least GCSE Grade C or above in both English and Maths so as to undertake essential record keeping.

Applications WILL ONLY be accepted on a Kent County Council Support Staff Application form, which is available to download from the document section.

In accordance with our commitment to safeguarding the wellbeing of our pupils ALL shortlisted candidates will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure check with the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Applications MUST be received by the deadline of Friday 18th September, with interviews scheduled to take place on Thursday 24th September.

Information about the school

The Foreland School is a Day Special School for pupils with Profound, Severe and Complex Needs (PSCN), many of whom also have Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

We provide for up to 165 pupils aged 2-19 in four departments; Nursery/Infants, Juniors (KS2) Seniors (KS3) and 14 to 19 Education (Saxon House), plus two fully staffed mainstream inclusion class bases within Garlinge Primary School and Hartsdown Academy.

This is an exciting time to join us as we prepare to undertake a complete rebuild of the school on a new site, with improved accommodation and capacity for up to 200 pupils from February 2017.

Our School and all its personnel are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children. This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
