  • Do you want to work in an energetic, high performing English department?

  • Do you have a passion for literacy, learning and creativity?

  • Do you want to work in a school where students are challenged and

  • supported to excel?

  • Do you want to work in a school that rewards excellent teachers?

Required for September 2016; an enthusiastic English teacher to join a highly successful department in delivering courses at KS3, 4 and 5. Our English department is a highly effective department that has improved literacy and attainment in English throughout the school. Our students love their English lessons and are passionate about reading and writing.

In our most recent Ofsted report (May 2015) the strength of English teaching at Wrotham School was highlighted as follows:

“All aspects of English are taught well and students are encouraged to read often. Those that require help receive the support they need to read fluently. Teachers encourage students to speak correctly and use subject specific vocabulary where appropriate. This has a positive impact on students’ writing and their written work is of a good standard in content, style and presentation”.

We welcome applications from English and Media specialists that can demonstrate high levels of creativity and innovation. The ideal candidate will be emotionally intelligent, highly motivated and will be willing to take measured risks to deliver an exciting and engaging curriculum that develops high levels of speaking, listening and writing skills. Our new Pay Policy will reward outstanding teachers with enhanced pay awards.

We are a pleasant semi- rural school just outside of London with good access to the capital via a mainline train service into Victoria. Unlike areas closer to the city, the local area provides more affordable house prices and rental as well as benefiting from beautiful local countryside.

Our students make excellent progress and are well behaved; this is made very clear in our Ofsted report from May 2015. We have a committed and highly appreciated staff team who are highly thought of by students and parents.

We are an academy but not part of an academy chain and whilst having high expectations of our teachers and leaders we have strong progression routes for middle and senior leadership; a supportive team of staff and we follow the “Burgundy Book” of teacher pay and conditions. We work closely with our teachers to ensure that unnecessary paperwork and admin are kept to a minimum and that a healthy and productive work life balance is maintained. We have an innovative programme of research based professional development opportunities that contributes to a 2 week October half term that has been very well received by our students, parents and staff.

We respect experience and excellence in our teachers and encourage experienced staff to apply for vacancies, we remunerate this accordingly. We offer an additional pay award for staff that perform at an outstanding level as part of our appraisal review process.

To apply please complete the application form available on our website via the button below.

Wrotham School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All posts are subject to an enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service and check against the ISA Barred List for children.
