Childrens Residential home manager.




We have a permanent full time home manager role of a 3 bedded residential childrens home in Bexleyheath.


Candidates must have previous children’s home managment experience and leadership qualification in social care and children/young people’s workforce.


The home is run by a local care group.

Job Purpose Responsible to The Service Development Manager to whom the Registered Manager is accountable for providing effective leadership and for the safe and efficient management of the Home. Key Tasks 1. Provide effective leadership 2. Maintain Occupancy 3. Manage the services provided 4. Manage resources 5. Manage people 6. Manage information 7. Manage energy 8. Manage quality Duties and Responsibilities 1 Provide Effective Leadership 1.1 Represents the Home to relevant outside bodies, organisations, institutions and individuals. Ensures that the Home and in particular the services it provides, is well recognised, particularly within the local community, and those who have, or may have an impact upon the level of occupancy, such as Commissioning Teams of Social Services Departments, etc. Promotes the recognition and adoption of National Standards and the Codes of Practice established by the General Social Care Council. 1.2 Accepts responsibility and is accountable for all day to day activities and provides the example to be followed by others, creating an open, positive and inclusive atmosphere. In employment terms, ensures that relevant Policies and Procedures are adhered to. 1.3 Develops effective relationships with the key stakeholders in the business, including employees, Service Users, Service Users’ families and friends, the local community, local healthcare facilities, social workers, GP’s and suppliers. 2 Maintain Occupancy 2.1 Researches the position and attitude of all client groups in relation to the Home, the services it provides and the staff that provide the services. Use the results of this research to continuously improve the standard of service provided through feedback to staff members and key stakeholders. 2.2 Evaluates local competitors, taking into account current trends and developments, likely future interests, key competitive areas and situations etc. Identify strengths and weaknesses of competitors in particular, making plans, recommendations etc which will serve the best interests of own Home. 2.3 Develops an annual development plan with SMART (Specific, Measurable, Agreed, Realistic and Time bound) objectives, covering all present and planned services. 2.4 Examines, reviews and evaluates services provided by the Home to ensure maximum utilisation/delivery appropriate to the catchment area. 2.5 Considers proposals for the delivery of new services, purchase of new equipment etc in order to further develop and maximise the potential of the Home. J o b D e s c r i p t i o n s | 3 Registered Home Manager (Children’s Services) 2.6 Ensures that the Home has sufficient literature to meet day to day requirements, and that the Home’s Statement of Purpose, Children’s Guide, etc are accurate, up-to-date, regularly reviewed and distributed effectively. 3 Manage the Services Provided 3.1 In collaboration and conjunction with others, manages the activities and services provided by the Home. Ensures that services are provided to Service Users at the agreed time and to the relevant specification and quality, and consistent with individual assessments which have been undertaken, personal care plans drawn up, etc, and that these are regularly reviewed. 3.2 Co-ordinates the identification, frequent review and management of the Home’s structures, key processes, records and systems in line with changes in care practice and recommended national standards, needs of Regulatory Authorities, improvements in operational efficiency, changing legislation etc. Ensure that any changes are appropriately recorded, communicated and implemented in line with the needs of the various stakeholders. 3.3 Ensures that all activities and services are delivered in a manner, and in an environment which is sympathetic and conducive to the provision, at all times, of safe systems of work, and not likely to endanger the health and safety or welfare of anyone who provides or receives such services. 3.4 Defines values and policies which take into account the requirements, expectations, policies and interests of the Home. Ensures that key operational policies (e.g. Behaviour Management, Abuse, Care Plans, Health Care of Service Users, Recruitment, Police Checks, Complaints Procedure etc) are written, maintained, and available to employees and Service Users as appropriate. 3.5 Formulates strategies, measurable objectives and detailed action plans which are designed to achieve the financial and operational targets. Ensures support for strategies, objectives and plans through consultation and negotiation with stakeholders and other interested parties. 3.6 Regularly and frequently seeks the views of individual Service Users, their parents (unless this is inappropriate) and the contact person in their placing authority on the content and implementation of the placement plan and takes these into account in initiating and making changes to the plan. 4 Manage Resources 4.1 Manages all resources (e.g. labour, equipment, materials, premises, services, supplies, finance, energy) required to deliver the services provided by the Home. 4.2 Monitors and controls the use of resources, promoting efficient data collection, reporting and analysis. 4.3 In response to development of new services, or, for example, Service Users’ needs and requests, prepares reports/proposals on the planning, purchase or usage of premises, equipment, labour etc.
