Day Surgery Manager
Job Summary
The post holder will be expected to manage the day to day operations of the day surgery theatres, to ensure that resources are effectively and efficiently coordinated as well as for the development of services within the designated area of responsibility.
The post holder is expected to lead the team of nursing and ancillary staff and provides the necessary professional, clinical practice and motivational support for the team and peers, ensuring that high quality, individualised care are provided to the each patient and their relatives.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of Nursing and Clinical Services Manager you will be expected to undertake the following duites;
• To manage the theatre complex to meet the requirements of high quality patient care, using advanced specific clinical knowledge and skills ensuring care activities comply with Care UK policies and procedures and are adhere too by all members of the theatre team.
• Provide specialist clinical advice to the theatre team
• Assess, develop and implement pathways of care within the unit in conjunction with other health care professionals, ensuring optimum patient flow through the ward and theatres.
• Take an active role in developing staff to achieve advanced clinical practice within the unit.
• Co-ordinate and supervise the development and implementation of evidence based care within the unit. Ensuring all care and treatment provided is evidence based.
• To manage the organisational functions and resources within the unit ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness of the theatre department and service delivery from supplier’s e.g. implants or equipment and report monthly on issues of concern.
• Monitor expenditure ensuring efficient and economical use of all available resources.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
To be successful within this role you will;
• Demonstrate the ability to teach within the multi-disciplinary team.
• Demonstrate the ability to be innovative, motivate and lead change.
• Be responsible for maintaining excellent infection control standards.
Experience:
As the Day Surgery Manager you will have;
• Substantial relevant experience in theatre with recent experience at a senior level
• Experience of developing and evaluating patient care pathways
• Evidence of commitment to teaching and assessing.
Qualifications
• NMC Registered Nrurse Part 1
• Theatre Qualified or Diploma in Operating Theatre Technique
