Who You Are.
As our Global Commodity Manager in our Kent, WA location, you will be responsible for the global supply chain strategy for SHAPE. This includes assessing internal requirements, external market factors and historical supplier performance to effectively propose commodity strategies that will deliver the best total cost value to SHAPE.
- Develop and execute Global Commodity Strategies to deliver:
Supplier rationalization and the associated supply base transformation plans
Supplier selection and qualification processes
Supplier relationship and management programs
Targeted improvements in total cost
Comprehensive commodity profiles, including market analysis, benchmarking, and total cost of ownership
Identification and associated mitigation plans for pricing inflation and high risk factors that may impact total cost or assurance of supply
- Engage Product Development in design for supply chain decisions, identify preferred suppliers early in the product lifecycle, and ensure supplier capability and capacity are in place to support new product introductions
- Lead cross-functional teams in the evaluation, selection, and qualification of new suppliers as well as the development of existing suppliers
- Provide the leadership for developing successful supplier relationships, creating and negotiating supplier contracts or pricing agreements, managing all facets of supplier management activities for assigned commodities, and completing regular supplier performance assessments
- Develop full-scale project plans and associated communication documents; estimate resource and budget requirements to achieve project goals; establish and proactively manage project expectations with team members and stakeholders
- Identify cost reduction opportunities including make versus buy analysis and alternate sourcing utilizing benchmarking data, cost modeling and total cost analysis; identifying product/process improvements; executing competitive sourcing processes; analyzing commodity market trends; and leveraging global spend
- Balance strategy development with the tactical execution necessary to execute cost reduction projects through contract negotiation, process changes, and implementation of sustainable cost controls
- Establish effective internal customer relationships and gain key stakeholders trust and respect
- Develop sources for market intelligence including world-wide supplier capabilities, purchasing groups, trade organizations/associations, trade journals, internet research, and OEM’s
- Drive lean transformation throughout the supply chain and continuous improvement in all aspects of the procurement process
- Conduct periodic supplier audits to assess potential assurance of supply risks (i.e. financial stability, capacity…)
- Maintain the privacy and confidentiality of information, protect the assets of the organization, act with ethics and integrity, report non-compliance, and adhere to all applicable laws and regulations Qualifications
Strategic leadership with demonstrated ability to make timely and effective business decisions
- Strong negotiation skills with a proven track record in cost reduction and control
- Excellent organizational, project management and planning skills; high attention to details; consistent follow through
- Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, influence, and motivate others
- Track record for utilizing innovative and creative problem solving skills to address complex and/or contentious issues
- Advanced knowledge of procurement principals, theories, and processes
- Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
- Proficient in the use of personal computers, internet, intranet, and intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications
- Proven ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form
- Ability to demonstrate flexible and efficient time management and appropriately prioritize workload based upon organization or department needs
- Possess a high degree of professionalism and ability to handle confidential information
- Ability to work in a matrix environment and coordinate projects across functions, sites, and business units
- Extensive knowledge of ERP/MRP software/systems
- Solid understanding and use of software and analytics to extract, analyze and interpret data to make effective business decisions
Education/Experience and/or Training
Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, Engineering, Business, or related field from an accredited college or university
Five (5) years’ experience in global commodity management within a related manufacturing industry, including two (2) years in a leadership role
Demonstrated experience developing and executing global commodity strategies Lean or Six Sigma certification and extensive experience with Kanban/Pull Systems, VSM, Kaizen, Six Sigma, 5S is preferred
Three years of experience with international sourcing and contract negotiations
APICS—CPIM certification preferred
Special Job Requirements
May require frequent availability and communication during non-standard business hours to communicate with global team members
Fluency in a foreign language a plus
Some domestic and international travel may be required
