Secondary SEN Learning Support Assistant

** Learning Support Assistants required in a Kent Schools

** Work with students with specific learning difficulties

** Full time. 8.30am to 4.30pm. Term time only as a Teaching Assistant

** Earn £75 to £80 per day

Kent Secondary School is looking to appoint dedicated and motivated teaching assistants to work within their Special Needs department. You will be supporting several students in Years 7 and 8, both in and out of class. The students are all on the SEN register and several are statemented. The students will have mainly learning difficulties and some with behavioural difficulties.

The AEN department works very closely with the teaching staff to ensure students with additional needs are supported and are able to access the curriculum. Staff are trained and qualified to teach all students, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), using a wide range of differentiation to ensure all students can access the work and progress.

We monitor student’s work six times a year to review their academic progress. We also use a range of assessment methods with students, at various points, as and when required.

The levels of need are carefully assessed, making sure regular monitoring of teacher assessments, opinions and student work across the whole of the Academy is part of the formative assessment process, so that the correct level of support can be given.

The SENCO is looking for either:-

  • A Qualified Teaching Assistant with some SEN experience, particularly with Dyslexia, Autism and emotional and behavioural difficulties.

  • An Overseas Teacher who is looking for experience as a Teaching Assistant before becoming a UK Teacher

  • A Graduate with at least a year experience as a Teaching Assistant

Half of the timetable will be on a one to one basis in class. The other half will be in the Special Needs Department itself. You will be working, alongside a Learning Support Teacher, with groups of students. The work in the department will mainly be centred around Maths and English.

The school interviews will take place in mid June but I will be looking to recruit ASAP.
