Information about the school
Folkestone Primary Academy is part of Folkestone All-Age Academy. We are a two form entry school but have chosen to organise children into smaller classes of 20, recognising the many benefits for both children and members of staff. Each year group of three teachers work closely as a team: we ensure that less experienced members of staff work alongside more experienced so that they are well-supported. Children and teachers form relationships quickly in smaller classes. More time can be spent supporting small groups and individuals which has a positive effect on pupils’ progress and achievement. Planning and resourcing for the year group is shared between three teachers, allowing teachers more time for giving pupils quality feedback and professional development opportunities.
We are a forward-thinking school, committed to enabling children to acquire fundamental literacy and maths skills, while developing individual strengths and talents. We are determined that every child in our school is happy and successful, through providing high standards of academic learning opportunities and pastoral care. Learning is underpinned by three key aspects of practice: Building Learning Power (children understanding themselves as learners); Assessment for Learning; and Talk for Writing. Children come to our school to be happy and successful. They will leave us as confident, self-assured, positive young people who love to learn, to contribute and to achieve
We offer pupils a dedicated staff who are committed to developing the knowledge, skills, attitudes and understanding which will enable children to enjoy learning, achieve success and to feel contented and fulfilled. We ensure that our children learn about, and have confidence in, themselves as learners.
As an inclusive, caring school where every child matters, we recognise that all children have talents and abilities to enjoy, and a part of our role is to help them discover and develop these. We encourage a strong community spirit, where we show consideration for each other, understand differences, and uphold kind, well-mannered behaviour.
In being the Primary School in an All Age Academy we will retain the overview of a child’s learning journey from pre-school to post sixth form, building the All Age cohesion which will bring about the best educational and personal development opportunities for all of our children and the community in which they live, and fulfilling our high expectations. At the end of Year 6 our children have the right to transfer into the Senior School if this is the parental preference, although, of course, other options will remain available.
The learning community of Folkestone Primary Academy has a shared vision that every child deserves to be successful. We challenge and develop our children to become curious, autonomous learners who are inspired and stimulated through a rich and varied curriculum, appropriate to individual needs. Through Building Learning Power to develop children’s learning skills and setting high expectations and exacting standards, we prepare our children to flourish and gain confidence and self belief, to develop as life long learners.
Folkestone Primary Academy is inclusive and is fully committed to meeting the needs of all children and enabling learners to achieve their full potential.
Our School and all its personnel are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children. This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
