ST AUGUSTINES CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL: Learning Support Assistant Teaching/Child Support - Part-time

We are looking for two Teaching Assistants to support a Year 3 child with Downs Syndrome on a 1:1 basis. One post will be 16 hours a week working all day on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday until 2.00pm; this includes handover and planning time. The second post is 14 ½ hours a week working from 12.00 on Wednesday; this includes hand over time and working all day on Thursday and Friday.
Previous experience of assisting children with learning difficulties would be an advantage but training can be provided to the suitable candidate. The successful applicant will need to attend to the pupils’ specific personal care needs as agreed in their Care Plan. This will also involve changing nappies. Experience with P scales and KS1, and be committed to our high expectations and ethos of providing excellent quality learning opportunities, creative ideas and inspirational teaching.
You do not need to be Catholic to work at our school but a commitment to the Catholic ethos of the school is necessary.
We require staff who have:
- A clear understanding of Downs Syndrome and a strong sense of the importance of inclusion;
- The ability to be proactive and adapt to any situation that can arise;
- A common sense approach and able to show initiative;
- A working knowledge of Makaton sign language;
- Previous experience of working with children in school;
- Experience of providing interventions to develop motor skills;
- High standards of work ethic and self-motivation;
- The ability to work as part of a job share;
- The ability to form positive professional relationships with children, staff and parents;
- The enthusiasm, motivation and team spirit to join our friendly school;
- Good behaviour management skills- positive handling training would be an advantage;
- A minimum of Grade C GCSE in English and Maths;
- A flexible and enthusiastic attitude to working as members of a team;
- Will support the inclusive ethos of the school;
- Good command of spoken ‘standard’ English;
- A commitment to professional development;
- A familiarity with assessing using P scales;
- Experience of delivering speech and language support;
- An expectation to undertake training related to this role
- High standards of personal presentation, punctuality, professional standards & team work.
