Teacher - Special Education Resource -- Extended School Year (ESY) - Bethel School District - Spanaway, WA

The Bethel School District is seeking teacher applicants who have the potential to be leaders and innovative educators. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to deliver instruction based upon best available research and practices in teaching and learning.


If you are a current Bethel School District employee, you must complete an INTERNAL application. All other applicants, including current substitutes, must complete the standard application.


BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNMENT: Provide specially designed instruction to students with special needs. Provide support to the Special Education Teaching team.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

•Valid and appropriate certificate and endorsements for Washington State required.

•Endorsement required: Special Education K-12

•Demonstrated ability to successfully employ effective teaching methods.

•Demonstrated desire and ability to work and communicate effectively with staff, students and parents from diverse cultural backgrounds.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/CHARACTERISTICS:

•Demonstrate a knowledge in and application of Performance Learning/State Essential Learnings.

•Successful experience working with secondary special education students.

•Understanding of and success at implementing classroom behavior management programs for individual students and entire classes.

•Proven ability to work successfully with regular education and special education teachers in coordinating programs, resources and inclusion.

•Successful experience creating and implementing curricular and extra curricular activities for special needs students.

•Organizational ability and positive attitude needed to successfully mange student files, participate in MDT and coordinate IEPs.

•Demonstrated knowledge of state regulations for special education.

•Demonstrated knowledge in: Cooperative learning, study skills, team teaching, Performance Learning/Assessment, Writing Assessment, Math Manipulatives and effective instruction.

•Training and experience in classroom management techniques such as Assertive Discipline and “Make your Day”.

•Willingness to provide support to special Education team by attending district meetings and inservices as a building representative.


Extended School Year ONLY — July 7 to August 8, 2016. Four (4) hours per day, hours/days may vary. Time will be paid on timesheet ($32.00 per hour). There are three open positions for this posting.
