Editorial Assistant
Job Spec:
A good first position for anyone aspiring to follow an editorial career path or for someone from an editorial background looking for a steady and rewarding role.
Working closely with two editors, the role involves the management and layout of product pages for established magazines and websites
The role requires excellent organisational and communication skills and will provide opportunities to create and lay to page specific editorial content, as required by the editors.
To organise and produce the product sections within the magazines, ensuring balance between market suppliers in accordance with publication deadlines.
The role:
To contribute to news, articles, features, supplements and such like and to produce copy accurately in accordance with specified production deadlines.
To interview senior industry figures, producing thought-provoking and engaging copy.
To develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of the publications, their style and the market sectors at which they are aimed.
To develop and maintain contacts with key personnel and companies in the market sectors.
To sub-edit both on computer and hard copy and proof final pages.
To ensure that all records and administrative matters are maintained efficiently.
To work within editorial objectives set by the Editors and to keep the Editors informed of your movements and activities.
To protect the company’s legal position at all times.
To generate new ideas that lead to business development opportunities.
To assist with the updating of web-based news.
To manage and monitor all social media channels for both publications.
To assist in the publication’s weekly and monthly newsletters.
To answer queries by phone and email regarding the online CPD training system.
To complete other relevant tasks as may be reasonably assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Computer literate
- Knowledge of InDesign essential
- Knowledge of CMS
- Practical usage of social media in a business context
- Ability to write in clear concise English
- Good grasp of grammar and spelling
- Willingness and enthusiasm to learn
- Determination and persistence
- Good telephone manner
- Accuracy and diligence in keeping written records
- Organised
