Security Officer - Valley Medical Center - Renton, WA

Provides technical and analytical support to the VP of HR with primary emphasis on compensation programs, policies and practices. Responsible for regular market reviews and determination of compensation grade for all non-contract positions. Provide interpretation of policies, practices and procedures to the organization

AREA OF ASSIGNMENT: Human Resources Department

HOURS OF WORK: Full time, typical hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm


FLSA: Exempt

RESPONSIBLE TO: Manager, Compensation, Benefits & HRIS


Job Responsibilities:
1. Design and administer innovative compensation program reflective of organizational philosophy and policy, current labor market, bargaining unit and legal requirements. Collaborate and communicate with leadership on compensation issues. Proactively review components of compensation program to ensure they consistently meet the needs and requirements of the organization. Ensure that program remains cost effective and consistent with organizational and budgetary requirements. Coordinate annual staff and leadership base pay reviews including notification of pay changes.

2. Analyze market trends and community compensation practices recommending program and individual adjustments when appropriate.

3. Complete salary surveys and analyze results. Maintain compensation database sufficient to meet analytical and reporting requirements, and fair and equitable position placement within the organization’s market based program.

4. Provide HR guidelines for establishing new hire rates; coordinate with Recruiting to review and recommend all salaries using guidelines.


5. Review and periodically revise incentive-pay programs for management and staff levels ensuring market competitiveness. Calculate incentive payments.


6. Coordinate and evaluate the design and development of job descriptions. Maintain database of all organization job descriptions assisting managers with development of new positions or revision of existing job descriptions. Place positions in appropriate market-based range; review Leadership placement with VP of HR or delegate.


7. Participate in preparation for labor negotiations to include research, recommendations, cost analysis, and other information important to the bargaining process.


8. Provide back-up support to HRIS specialists on processing HR Action Forms for employee status changes, specifically for compensation related updates and changes.


9. Represent the hospital in professional organizations. Participate as Valley Medical Center representative at Milliman Health Care Survey Committee, among others. Maintain working relationships with external vendors, consultants and others. Remain apprised of legal regulations relating to appropriate topics to ensure company compliance.


10. Assist with Executive Compensation Program Plan as requested.


11. Educate Management and Staff on appropriate topics. As necessary, attend employee focus group meetings or staff meeting to explain programs.


12. Update miscellaneous correspondence, memos, forms, documents, and other materials as needed to ensure quality communication.


13. Serve as a resource to staff and management in interpretation of HR policies, pay practices, procedures, and programs. Triage questions and issues to HR staff when appropriate.


14. Enhance professional growth and development through inservices and educational programs. Keep abreast of HR development and regulatory changes.


15. Maintain financial awareness of department and program budgets.


16. Exhibit behaviors that support the organization’s Service Standards and Cultural Beliefs.


17. Participate as an active team member for HR system upgrades and new implementations.


18. Assist with other projects and duties as requested.


Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma required. Bachelor’s degree required. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.


Professional Licensure/Certification/Registration: CCP preferred.


Experience: Five years of Human Resources experience in compensation programs required. Health care experience preferred.


Special Training/Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Demonstrated diplomacy and professional demeanor, including the ability to present a positive public relations image and the ability to relate to a diversity of people. Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of trust and confidentiality. Demonstrated ability to function effectively and professionally in difficult and/or conflict situations. Current knowledge of employment/labor laws pertaining to Human Resources and compensation/pension administration strongly desired. Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications including Word, Excel and Access.
