Store Helper - McLendon Hardware - Kent, WA

Position Description

Title: Store Helper Days Off: Varies

Department: Maintenance and Freight Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Zone Manager

Position Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Store Helper is to assist Sales Clerks, Staff and Customers by performing a variety of stockkeeping, customer service and housekeeping/janitorial duties. This position works under moderate supervision and must work closely with Sales Clerks and Customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Customer Service –Assists customers by carrying merchandise, upon request, to cashier area or to customer’s vehicle; as well as provide courteous, efficient and attentive service in a timely manner by welcoming customers, directing customers to needed merchandise or by taking the customer to a Sales Clerk for assistance.

Freight – Delivers freight to appropriate department. May help put stock on shelves.

Housekeeping – Performs general housekeeping/janitorial duties including, but not limited, keeping store free of debris and litter, removing and disposing of unwanted or useless materials, dusting merchandise on shelves, sweeping floor areas, etc. Removes, breaks down and recycles empty boxes from all areas.

Outside Maintenance – Returns carts in parking lot to store and keeping front walks clean.

Level II:
In order to be a Store Helper II the Incumbent must, in addition to the above, meet four (4) of the following six (6) criteria:

Designated to work in a specific department

Trained as a back-up cashier

Unloads/loads truck deliveries using forklift on a regular basis throughout the day

Trained as a back-up Lumber Yard Clerk

Regularly assigned to mentor and train new store helpers

Assigns and organizes tasks for other store helpers

Other Duties:
Dispenses propane if available at store location.

Performs other duties as needed.

Qualifications:

• Must have the ability to perform assigned duties according to time schedules and deadlines.


• Must be able to start, return to, and complete a variety of duties with interruption.


• Must have the ability to stand, climb, bend, and lift merchandise of up to 50lbs for extended periods of time.


• Must have basic computer knowledge, including Email.


• Must have the ability to read and write English and have basic math skills.
