Summary: The Deposit and Payment Processing Specialist is responsible for processing payment industry items related to the Federal Reserve Bank, NACHA and financial institutions, completing reconciliation settlement processes, handling incoming and outgoing items and exceptions. The Deposit and Payment Processing Specialist will ensure all files are processed and balanced and prepare documentation to ensure proper credit/debits are performed to the GL and member accounts.
In this job, you will:
- Perform all responsibilities in accordance with BECU Competencies, compliance, regulatory and Information Protection requirements.
- Operate image scanners to capture check and remittance documents for various work types.
- Ensure that all check clearing, wire transfers, internal investments and ACH transactions are conducted within the specified time limitations set by the Federal Reserve.
- Retrieve and post incoming/outgoing wires to ensure members’ accounts and internal accounts are properly credited or debited on a daily basis.
- Resolve internal and external discrepancies by locating and investigating all points of access.
- Maintain correspondence with financial institutions regarding status of incoming and outgoing cash letters and return letters.
- Respond to all members’ inquiries in a timely and professional manner. Research and respond to exception transactions, as well as out of balance conditions.
- Ensure that all Credit Union records and documentation are maintained in a secure and systematic manner.
- Obtain leadership approval for charge-off adjustment items, providing full supporting documentation.
- Have a thorough knowledge of all Federal Reserve, NACHA and NWCHA rules pertaining to regulations on the Electronic Transfer processes including, checks, deposits, ACH and wires.
- Have a thorough knowledge of Credit Union and departmental services, policies, and procedures as well as knowledge with all applicable state and Federal Laws and regulations to ensure the Credit Union is in compliance with adjustment recovery.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum two years of experience in high volume data entry and item processing department required.
- Minimum one to two years of experience processing ACH and Wires required.
- Continuing education, including courses and seminars pertaining to ACH and check clearing processes and regulations preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent PC and 10 key skills with the ability to learn new software.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate in the English language.
- Good analytical, research and problem solving skills.
- Ability to perform multiple responsibilities with a high degree of accuracy.
- Full-time hours required, with additional hours as necessary.
