In-School Suspension - Kent School District - Kent, WA





s from classroom teachers; working with students, counselors, administrators and teachers to evaluate student progress; provide written and oral communication to parents and teachers; and assist in helping students develop a personal action plan. The successful candidate may also be responsible for sorting and processing all the discipline referrals into a database, generating weekly reports, doing all minor attendance issues, being a resource person for teachers and administrators concerning discipline issues, rescheduling of detentions, and handling parent phone calls and questions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • AA degree or 90 quarter-hour college credits*. Transcripts must on file to be considered for an interview. Completion of the ETS ParaPro Assessment test with a score of 461 or higher will be accepted in lieu of college credits. Proof of score must be on file.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Ability to interact with students or groups of students and maintain discipline.

  • Experience in conflict resolution and working with at-risk students.

  • Proven ability to develop positive rapport with students.

  • Experience and skills in working with limited English speaking students.

  • Prefer candidate that is a team player, positive, with good communication skills.

  • Must be able to demonstrate flexibility working with other staff in variety of locations.

  • Must have strong interpersonal skills working with a team staff, students, and parents.

  • Accurate keyboarding experience.

  • Proficiency in verbal and written skills and a working knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, and English usage.

  • Previous experience working with high needs students.

  • Ability and willingness to provide medical or health services such as catheterization, diapering, toileting, feeding, tube feeding and assisting students with other activities involving self-care, which may be required.

  • Must maintain positive learning environment and have ability to relate to all students, parents, and colleagues.

  • Ability to exercise sound independent judgment, including appropriate handling of confidential matters.

  • Willingness to work with students with special needs and discipline behavior problems.

  • Ability and willingness to provide medical or health services such as catheterization, diapering, toileting, feeding, tube feeding and assisting students with other activities involving self-care, which may be required.

  • Ability to communicate in another language.

  • Ability to exhibit multicultural and ethnic understanding and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the school community.

  • Desired characteristics are: flexibility; ability to organize ideas, time and materials to accomplish goals; enthusiasm; ability to express ideas clearly and understand concepts being discussed; ability to learn new ideas and skills; ability and willingness to develop favorable relationships with students; and willingness to model behavior deemed appropriate by the school district and the community.

  • NOTE: Federal law now requires that Paraeducators have a minimum of 90 quarter-hour college credits, an AA degree, or pass a rigorous exam to hold positions that receive federal funding.
